Airbnb WiFi QR Code — Guest Network Setup Guide

Short-term rental guests ask for WiFi within minutes of arrival. A printed WiFi QR code in the welcome binder or on the fridge lets them join without typing a long password — and without messaging you at midnight.

Why hosts use WiFi QR codes

Clear check-in instructions reduce support messages. A scannable code works for most modern iPhones and Android phones. Combined with a house manual URL QR, you can cover both “how to connect” and “house rules” with two small printouts.

maintool generates the WiFi payload entirely in your browser. Your network password is not uploaded to maintool servers when you create the image.

Step 1: Prefer a guest network

Create a separate guest SSID when your router supports it. Limit bandwidth if needed and keep your primary devices on a private network. Anyone who can scan the printed code can join that SSID — treat it as public within the property.

Step 2: Generate with maintool

Open the WiFi QR Code Generator, enter SSID and password, choose WPA/WPA2 for most routers, then Generate. Download PDF for the welcome book or PNG for a laminated card.

Step 3: Placement that guests notice

  • Welcome binder first page or fridge magnet card.
  • Near the router or living-room table — not hidden in a drawer.
  • Label it “Guest WiFi — scan to connect” in large, plain text.
  • If you rotate passwords between seasons, reprint the QR after each change.

Security checklist for rentals

Do not print your main office or home admin WiFi on a card left in a rental. Use a guest network, change the password when you change locks or between long stays if misuse occurs, and avoid writing the password in large letters next to the QR unless you accept walk-by sharing (balconies, street-facing windows).
