What is a WiFi QR code?

A WiFi QR code encodes your network name (SSID), password, and encryption type into a scannable image. When someone points their phone camera at it, the device can offer to join the network in one tap — no typing long passwords on a tiny keyboard.

This format is widely used in cafés, coworking spaces, hotels, Airbnb rentals, offices, classrooms, and home guest networks. It reduces support questions and keeps credentials out of sticky notes.

With maintool, your WiFi credentials are processed only in your browser. We never see or store your network password. The generated code is a static image you can print or display digitally.

How to create and use a WiFi QR code

  1. Enter your SSID (network name), password, and encryption type. WPA/WPA2 is recommended for almost all modern routers.
  2. Generate the code and preview it on screen.
  3. Download PNG for screens, SVG for design tools, or PDF for printing.
  4. Place the code at reception, on a table tent, or on a wall poster where guests can scan comfortably.
  5. Test with an iPhone and an Android phone before you print large volumes.

Security and guest network tips

Anyone who can scan the code can join that network. In public or semi-public spaces, prefer a dedicated guest SSID with bandwidth limits and network isolation instead of your primary home or office LAN.

If you rotate the WiFi password, regenerate and replace printed codes. Old printouts will stop working when credentials change — that is expected for static QR codes.
