How to Create a vCard QR Code

A vCard QR code acts like a digital business card. Scanning it can offer to save your name, phone, email, organization, and website into the phone’s contacts. This guide explains which fields to include, how to generate a private client-side code with maintool, and how to prepare print materials for events.

When to use a vCard QR

Conferences, meetups, real estate open houses, trade shows, and printed business cards are ideal. Guests save your details accurately without typing. If your details change often, consider encoding a URL to a profile page you control instead of a full static vCard.

Step 1: Choose the fields

At minimum, include your name and one reliable contact method (phone or email). For professional contexts, add organization and website. Keep fields accurate — typos get saved into other people’s address books.

Step 2: Generate with maintool

Open the vCard QR Code Generator, enter your details, and click Generate. Processing happens in your browser; contact fields are not uploaded to maintool servers for generation.

Download SVG or PDF for print clarity. PNG is fine for email signatures or slides.

Step 3: Test on multiple phones

Scan with iOS and Android when possible. Confirm the save-contact prompt appears and that fields look correct. Some older devices behave differently; testing prevents wasted print runs.

Step 4: Print for events

Place the code on badge backs, table tents, one-pagers, or classic business cards. Keep at least about 2×2 cm of code area plus quiet margin. Avoid busy backgrounds behind the QR modules.

Updating details later

Static vCards embed the values you entered at generation time. After a phone or email change, generate a new code and replace old materials. That is an inherent property of static QR codes, not a maintool limitation unique to vCards.
