How to Create a WhatsApp QR Code Free — QR for WhatsApp
A WhatsApp QR code opens a chat with your number when scanned. This guide covers when to use one, how to format your phone number, optional pre-filled messages, generating a private client-side code with maintool, and printing tips that improve scan success.
When WhatsApp QR codes work well
Use them on storefront posters, product packaging, business cards, event booths, restaurant tables, and support desks. Customers start a conversation without saving your contact first. Optional pre-filled text helps you recognize which campaign or location produced the lead.
Step 1: Prepare your number and message
Enter your phone number as digits with country code only — for example, 14155552671 for a US number. Do not include spaces, dashes, or a leading + sign. Wrong formatting is the most common reason a WhatsApp link fails.
Optional message examples: “Hi, I want a quote” or “Hello from your poster.” Keep it short. Remember that static codes embed the message permanently until you generate a new image.
Step 2: Generate with maintool
Open the WhatsApp QR Code Generator, fill in the fields, and click Generate. The deep link and QR image are created in your browser; maintool does not upload your phone number to generate the code.
Adjust size and colors if needed. Prefer dark modules on a light background for reliable scanning under shop lighting.
Step 3: Test on real devices
Scan with WhatsApp installed on iOS and Android. Confirm the chat opens to the correct number and that the pre-filled message appears when you included one. If WhatsApp is missing, the device may prompt to install it or fail to open the chat.
Step 4: Print and place
Download SVG or PDF for print, PNG for screens. Keep the printed code at least about 2×2 cm and place it where people naturally pause. Avoid extreme perspective (flat on a table far below eye level) when possible.
Personal vs Business accounts
The QR format works with personal and WhatsApp Business accounts. Business features (catalog, labels, greeting messages) are optional enhancements in the WhatsApp app — they are not required for the QR to open a chat.
